Explore STEM while developing your English
Science & Technology is a two-week English-language programme for students interested in how science and technology help us understand and respond to the world around us. Through selected themes from physics, chemistry, biology, computing and engineering, students develop subject vocabulary while practising speaking, listening, reading and presentation skills.
Learning combines discussion, problem-solving, accessible investigations and collaborative challenges. The emphasis is on scientific thinking, evidence and communication rather than specialist laboratory training.

What you'll study
Science, technology and problem-solving
Students explore selected STEM themes while developing the English needed to describe processes, interpret information, compare solutions and discuss evidence.

Scientific Thinking & Evidence
Explore how scientific questions can be investigated using observations, information and evidence. Students practise interpreting findings, comparing explanations and communicating conclusions clearly in English.

Computing & Technology
Explore accessible ideas from computing and technology, considering how digital systems, algorithms and technological approaches can be used to solve different kinds of problems.

Module 03
Engineering & Design Thinking
Consider how engineers define problems, generate possible solutions and improve ideas through testing and evaluation, with an emphasis on teamwork, reasoning and communication.
The signature experience
Investigate. Develop. Communicate.
Throughout the programme, students work collaboratively on a STEM-themed question or challenge. They organise information, consider possible solutions and decide how best to communicate their thinking.
At Time to Shine, students present their project to peers and staff, bringing together STEM knowledge, teamwork and English-language communication.

No experience is required. The course introduces key techniques while also supporting students who already have some background in science and technology.
All workshop and project resources are provided. Students can choose to bring standard study items such as pens, notebooks, and a laptop or tablet for project work.
Yes. Most of your time will be spent in labs and workshops, developing projects through experiments and technology tasks.
An intermediate level (B1) or above is recommended so students can take a full part in labs and the science fair.
All residential staff are DBS-checked and trained, with a high staff-to-student ratio and 24/7 pastoral support.
