SBC gives you an opportunity to be a part of an incredible international environment while earning fair pay (we are one of the highest paying summer school providers in the UK) and gaining excellent professional experience and contacts.
In 2018, The British Council awarded SBC the maximum number of Strengths in the 15 areas it assesses. As a result, SBC became the first and only multicentre summer school provider to be awarded 15 out of 15 areas of strength in a full inspection, thereby confirming us as one of the foremost course providers in the UK.
All members of staff employed by SBC will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the role. There must, of course, be demonstrable interest in working with young people, preferably in an international environment.
Safety and welfare of the students is of paramount importance. A good understanding of this and an ability to practical enforcing this belief should be a quality exhibited by all staff who work for us.
We look for staff to be:
It’s important to us that all staff communicate effectively with our students, using an appropriate level of language to suit the group.
We think it is important for our staff to feel fully prepared, supported and ready to perform to the best of their abilities, all before our students arrive. For this reason, all staff complete Safeguarding Basic Awareness, becoming qualified before arriving at the campus. We run specific House Parent and Management training pre-summer.
On arrival, each member of staff will undertake paid on-site training before the school is open to the students. Our staff training is three days long and includes job-specific sessions, positive behaviour management, safeguarding and pastoral training, activities & excursion training and lots of team building. This ensures staff feel confident in their role and creates a strong team foundation for the summer. If you come to us as a House Parent or Manager, you will get additional first aid and role-specific training.
During the summer we aim to offer beneficial CPD for all staff. This comes in the form of appraisals, lesson observations, opportunities for assisting with supervised teaching, teaching workshops, working with coaches, working closely with the Welfare Coordinator or Nurse or spending some time shadowing a role you are interested in. This is a great opportunity to gain experience which can be both personally and professionally beneficial.
Yes! Each of our schools has a laundry service for both staff and students. Some schools have access to washing machines whereas others have an external laundry service provided free to staff. This is through a large-scale laundry service and we would recommend leaving any valuable pieces of clothing out of the laundry.
All our schools are able to cater to individual dietary requirements and we will be able to make sure your dietary requirements are met if you let our HR Team know in advance by emailing: HR@summerboardingcourses.com
A DBS Check (formally known as a CRB Check) is conducted by the Disclosure and Barring Service, which is the UK equivalent of a thorough Police Check. It helps to prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, such as children.
At SBC, the welfare and safeguarding of our students is paramount so all staff are required to have a satisfactory Enhanced DBS with Barred List Check and, where applicable, Overseas Police Checks. This, along with two checkable professional references is necessary for all new staff to include on their Application Form. Returning staff will also need an additional reference each summer on their Fast Track Returner Application Form.
Staff are paid weekly in arrears and all the Payroll information you need can be found on the Staff Noticeboard in the Summer School Office. Any further questions can be answered by the HR Team.
