In the Spotlight: Social Programme Coordinator

What is your role at summer boarding courses?
My main role as the Social Programme Co-ordinator is to manage the activity programme that takes place in the afternoons and evenings of the summer school. Throughout the summer I manage a team of Activity Leaders who deliver the various activities. As a team, we create an enthusiastic and positive atmosphere around the school! It is very rewarding to see the children engaged and enjoying the activities

Fun, busy and every day is different! Summer school life is madness, yet madness that you will enjoy! Although days are busy, you are constantly supported and with a fantastic team like SBC you will have the best time.

Meeting people from all over the world!

I found it hard to get my head around the admin side, however with the support of my manager I was able to learn new skills and now I’d like to say I’m a bit of a wiz on excel!

What have you gained from working with Summer Boarding Courses?
Summer Boarding Courses has enabled me to meet new people, and experience things I would never experienced before. I have learnt skills I didn’t know I had and every summer gets better and better!

What advice would you give a staff member going into their first summer with Summer Boarding courses?
Be yourself! You were hired because you are brilliant! Take yourself and all your ideas to Summer School. Don’t over work yourself, support each other and remember the reason behind it all – the children. It’s a once in a lifetime experience for them! Time goes by so quickly – enjoy every second!

What’s your favourite summer school memory?
I have lots of memories from summer school, and each one is important to me. The smile on a child’s face when they walk through the doors year in year out is irreplaceable. When a child walks in having remembered you from the year before and it’s like they have never been away! Summer school is a bubble – enjoy every moment!
