Think Global combines English language study with an exploration of international issues and current events. The programme is designed for students who want to improve their communication skills while engaging with topics that matter on a global scale. Through projects, discussions, and fieldwork, you’ll develop both your language ability and your understanding of the world around you.

Think Global!
The Think Global pathway at Earlscliffe is an English language programme built around the study of current events. Over two weeks you’ll improve fluency and confidence in English while exploring the major issues shaping the world today.
The course uses news, media and case studies as the basis for language learning. You’ll read articles, analyse reports and discuss global challenges, developing both vocabulary and critical understanding.
Practical activities include producing written pieces, leading discussions and preparing short presentations. These tasks help you practise academic and professional English while engaging with real-world topics.
Collaboration is a key feature. You’ll work in groups on projects that explore cultural, political and social themes, sharing perspectives with peers from different backgrounds.

Our Approach to Your Learning
In Think Global at Earlscliffe College, our approach combines language learning with the study of current events. You will improve your English through discussions, debates and projects based on real-world issues, developing both fluency and critical thinking. Activities include analysing media, preparing written work and presenting your ideas to others. With small class sizes, you receive tailored support from tutors, ensuring steady progress in your language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of global topics.

Course Modules & Objectives
This course is designed to strengthen your English language skills while engaging with current world events. By the end of the programme, you will have improved your fluency, expanded your academic vocabulary, and gained confidence in discussing global issues in English. This course is ideal for students who want to develop both their language skills and their awareness of international topics.
Module 1: Global Issues in Focus
This module introduces current world events and their wider context. You will explore themes such as climate change, migration and international conflict, using authentic sources like news articles and reports. The aim is to build both your understanding of global challenges and your ability to discuss them in English.
Module 2: Language for Communication
In this module, the focus is on developing the language skills needed for discussion, debate and presentation. You will practise vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation through activities linked to real-world topics. By the end, you will feel more confident expressing your ideas clearly in both spoken and written English.
Module 3: Media, Culture and Perspective
This module looks at how information and culture shape our understanding of global events. You will analyse media sources, compare viewpoints and consider how cultural context influences opinion. Group projects such as producing a short news broadcast or magazine article will help you apply your language skills creatively.

Master Public Speaking & Presenting
Time to Shine gives every student the chance to practise public speaking in a structured setting. By researching, preparing and delivering a project to an audience, you build confidence in expressing ideas clearly and develop the ability to present with authority. It’s an opportunity to refine communication skills that are valuable for academic study, professional life and beyond.
For your Time to Shine project, you will create and present a piece of work that explores a current global issue through the lens of language and communication. This project gives you the chance to apply your English skills in a real context, combining research, critical thinking and presentation.

What is the main focus of the Think Global programme?
The course combines English language development with the study of current events, encouraging you to improve your language skills while analysing global issues.
What resources or equipment should I bring?
All learning materials are provided. You should bring pens, notebooks, and optionally a laptop or tablet for research and project work.
Will the programme involve practical activities outside the classroom?
Yes. Think Global includes fieldwork, debates, and media projects that connect English learning with real-world topics.
Do I receive a certificate after completing the programme?
Yes. Every student receives a Certificate of Achievement, and you can also request a personalised Letter of Reference to support future study.
Is Think Global a challenging programme?
Think Global is a dynamic programme designed to challenge students. However, if students are finding it a little too hard, then the teacher can modify it so that every student feels involved in the class. At SBC we take great pride in delivering a Think Global course which delivers for a broad range of ability levels.
What level of English is required?
A2Â level is required at a minimum to fully benefit from the Think Global programme.
Is any pre-reading necessary for Think Global?
Despite the fact that pre-reading is not necessary to participate in the course, it would benefit students to perhaps review what they have learned this year to feel even more confident with their English, but only if they feel it is necessary.
