Discover Britain through English
Global Adventurers is a two-week English-language programme for students aged 12–15, combining language development with an immersive exploration of British culture, heritage and society. Students encounter themes from British Literature, History, Culture, Monarchy, Politics, Media and national identity while using English through discussion, debate, reading, writing, performance and collaborative projects.
Running throughout the programme is a continuous simulation in which students work together to create and develop their own fictional country. New information, decisions and developments are introduced as the programme progresses, giving students fresh reasons to communicate, negotiate, create and respond in English.

What you'll study
English through British culture and heritage
Global Adventurers develops speaking, listening, reading and writing through themes connected to Britain and its culture. Rather than separating English from content, students use the language to investigate ideas, express opinions, solve problems, debate alternatives and create work together.

Module 01
British Literature
Students encounter British writing through accessible extracts, poetry, speeches and other texts. They explore how writers use language to tell stories, express identity and influence an audience before experimenting with techniques in their own writing and performance.

Module 02
British History
Students explore key stories, turning points and personalities from British history, using historical sources and discussion to consider how the past continues to shape modern Britain. Historical examples also provide inspiration for the development of their own fictional country.

Module 03
British Culture & Society
From traditions and celebrations to sport, food, humour, regional identities and everyday customs, students examine some of the many influences that shape life in Britain today. They compare perspectives, discuss cultural identity and consider which traditions their own country might develop.
The signature experience
Create a country. Shape its culture. Make big decisions.
At the beginning of Global Adventurers, students work together to establish their own fictional country. Across the two weeks they develop its identity, traditions, institutions, media and place in the wider world. Each new theme introduces ideas from Britain that students can compare, adapt or challenge as their own country evolves.
The simulation develops throughout the programme through new announcements, opinion polls, newspaper reports, public campaigns and unexpected developments. Students discuss options, negotiate with one another and decide how their country should respond, creating meaningful reasons to use English collaboratively.

Eton College features a blend of buildings that date back to 1441, rich in history. The boarding houses serve as the heart of the experience, fostering our student communities. Students are housed in two separate boarding houses, one for boys and one for girls, each offering single rooms with shared bathrooms.

We use the facilities at Eton College so students can live and study in a remarkable historic setting, but the course is designed and delivered by Summer Boarding Courses.
