Course Objectives
Over the course of this two-week programme, you will:
- Discover the fundamentals of starting up and operating a business in today’s society
- Learn how businesses market and brand their products, applying this to your own ideas in a Time To Shine project
- Identify how business finances work so that businesses can break even and make a profit
- Take part in our exciting Time to Shine ceremony, and pitch the idea for a start-up business with your classmates to the rest of the school
- Develop and apply core 21st-century skills through fun and engaging lessons, including critical thinking, communication, creativity and collaboration
Module 1
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS
Be introduced to key business concepts and terminology, focusing on a range of important topics such as business ethics and global markets through a range of interactive lectures, discussions and case studies.
Module 2
MARKETING & INNOVATION
Explore what makes marketing strategies effective by investigating the role of innovation in business success. Participate in hands-on workshops looking at market research, branding, product management and digital marketing.
Module 3
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Delve into financial aspects essential for business management, including budgeting, financial statements, investments and risk management. You will analyse real-world financial reports and simulate financial planning exercises.

Is Business at Oxford College a challenging program?
The course offers a high level of challenge, but depending on the group’s level of English and ability to work with new information, the teacher can vary the level of challenge. At SBC we do our utmost to provide an inclusive learning environment.
What level of English is required to take part in the program?
To participate in this course, you must have a level of at least B1.
Do students receive a certificate?
At our graduation ceremony, each student receives a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the course.
Do students receive academic materials?
A variety of SBC handouts are distributed to students, all of which are produced by our academic staff.
What do students need to take to class?
Students only need their own pens; an SBC notebook and folder are provided.
While there is no pre reading required to engage fully in the course, it would help the students to keep working on their English to feel more comfortable if necessary.
