CATALYST by Winchester College
CATALYST by Winchester College is a selective, immersive programme that aims to help 13-18 year old students understand how economic, social, scientific, technological, and cultural change happens in the world, believing it will empower tomorrow’s leaders to be drivers of responsible change in the future.
We often tell young people that they are tomorrow’s changemakers, but when do we ever help them understand what change actually is? What does it mean to make change? And when is change good vs. bad?
The world’s problems are increasingly interdisciplinary. CATALYST challenges students to problem solve with peers from across the world through interactive simulations addressing complex topics… the ethical governance of artificial intelligence, the climate emergency, and the philosophy of behavior change, among others.

CATALYST is designed in keeping with Winchester College’s established inquiry-led practice which teaches pupils how to think, challenges established opinions and engenders a love for discussion and exploration.
CATALYST addresses the big questions: how do we teach our students to think? What can looking across disciplines and beyond boundaries bring to us? CATALYST students engage in discussion and debate, and embrace the idea of learning unconstrained by exam or tightly defined curricula.
CATALYST looks beyond the constraints of a traditional syllabus, instead focusing on helping students explore how the world changes, to emerge as global drivers of change, themselves. Save 10% when you use our referral code ‘SBC23’ on your application.
