In this foundational module, students will embark on a journey into the world of law. They’ll explore the basics of legal systems, key principles of law, and the structure of legal institutions. Through engaging discussions and case studies, students will gain insight into the foundations of justice, ethics, and the role of law in society. This module provides a strong grounding in legal concepts and prepares students for more advanced topics in the field of law.
Module 2 focuses on criminal law and the pursuit of justice. Students will delve into the intricacies of criminal law, examining topics such as the elements of a crime, criminal procedure, and the role of law enforcement and the judiciary. Through case analyses and simulated legal proceedings, students will experience the challenges and complexities of the criminal justice system. They will also explore the ethical considerations in criminal law and the evolving landscape of justice in the modern world.
In this practical module, students will develop their advocacy skills and explore contemporary legal issues. They’ll learn how to construct persuasive legal arguments, engage in mock trials, and present their cases effectively. Students will also examine pressing legal topics, such as human rights, environmental law, and international law, in the context of real-world challenges. Through debates, research projects, and guest lectures by legal professionals, students will gain practical insights into the dynamic field of law and advocacy.
Over the two-week programme, you will participate in two Time To Shine Projects.
Week One: Mock Trial and Legal Advocacy
In the first week’s “”Time to Shine”” project, students will participate in a Mock Trial and Legal Advocacy competition. They will assume the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and jurors and engage in a simulated trial scenario. Students will prepare and present cases, cross-examine witnesses, and argue legal points before a mock court. This project provides hands-on experience in legal proceedings, hones argumentation and critical thinking skills, and fosters an understanding of the legal system’s intricacies.
Week Two: Legal Research and Policy Proposal
In the second week’s “Time to Shine” project, students will engage in legal research and policy proposal development. Working in teams, they will select a contemporary legal issue, conduct research, and draft a policy proposal aimed at addressing the issue. Students will present their proposals, explaining the legal reasoning and potential impact of their policies. This project emphasizes the importance of legal research, policy analysis, and advocacy in the field of law, while also encouraging teamwork, persuasive communication, and an understanding of the law’s role in shaping society.
Develop your public speaking skills. Share your passion. Inspire your classmates.
Today, giving great presentations are a vital skill for achieving academic and professional success. Our programmes reflect this by having the ‘art of presenting’ at the heart of their content, and allow you to discover new confidence when using English in public situations.
It’s more than just a chance to enhance your public speaking skills, though; it’s an opportunity for you to share your passion and subject knowledge with your fellow classmates. Through your presentations, you will become sources of inspiration, and encourage others to delve deeper into your subject.
Dive deeper into your field beyond the classroom
Enhance your academic foundation with our comprehensive Industry Experience sessions. These sessions are both on-site, in which you will participate in workshops on-campus that are led by an industry professional and blend practical engagement with immersive learning, and off-site, in which students engage in excursions that complement your course content and will broaden your horizons.
During our Law course, gain real courtroom exposure and witness the law in action by visiting Oxford Crown Court to observe live trials, getting a first-hand view of the legal proceedings and courtroom dynamics.
You can also elevate your understanding of the legal process by participating in mock trials. Held in the historic Old Court Room of Oxford Town Hall, these sessions not only boost your legal reasoning skills but will also hone your advocacy and argumentative abilities.
Leaders of today inspiring the Leaders of tomorrow
Every Wednesday morning, students can interact with leading professionals and academics. These sessions offer insightful discussions, expert views, and Q&A sessions that promote intellectual growth.
Each week on this programme, you can engage with legal professionals, participating in enriching discussions with expert barristers and solicitors with subject areas ranging from family law to intellectual property. Absorb insights, learn about contemporary challenges, and delve into the complexities of real-life cases.

Although our Law course is academically rigorous, our experienced tutors can modify it based on the students’ comfort with English and ability to absorb new knowledge. At SBC our teachers are astute at noticing students who are finding the course too challenging, and everything is done to keep students on task and part of the class.
To be able to participate fully in this programme a minimum level of B1 is recommended.
We perform a graduation ceremony to mark the conclusion of the programme, and each graduate receives a certificate at this time.
Our very own academic team has produced a wide variety of SBC handouts for students.
While notebooks and folders are given, it’s recommended that each student should bring their own pen to participate in class.
Although there is no pre-reading required for participation in the course, it would be beneficial for students to keep improving their English to feel even more at home.
As preparation for what university life is like in an English speaking country, an SBC summer programme can be wonderful preparation for taking that next step, especially since Oxford and Cambridge Law courses can last between three to four years.
If you are looking to study law at Oxford and Cambridge, you’ll find that competition is strong.
