With outstanding views of the South Downs and plenty of space for children to enjoy, Twyford School has a welcoming atmosphere making it an ideal place for children to make new friends and get involved in a wide variety of different activities. With its traditional buildings and rural village setting, Twyford school evokes a nurturing atmosphere which feels safe and inspiring for children.
Situated just an hour southwest of London and close to the historic city of Winchester, Twyford sits within 22 acres of beautiful countryside. As well as an unmistakable sense of prestige and tradition from its older buildings, Twyford School boasts modern teaching facilities where students can learn through our experiential learning approach.
This dynamic course focuses on building communication, teamwork, and creativity skills, to develop both understanding of English and student confidence.…
Children at Twyford will enjoy an action-packed activity programme. We are very fortunate to partner with Ultimate Activity Camps, the UK’s leading activity camp provider in the UK, to offer our students a fantastic range of sports and on-site activities. For everything from basketball to football, Twyford has 6 impressive sports pitches including an astroturf pitch, as well as an adventure playground. For art and design, children have everything they could possibly need to explore their creativity, with spacious purpose-built studios where our young artists can pursue their creative interests and artistic ideas. These fantastic activities will be enjoyed alongside local British children, giving our students a unique opportunity to make new friends and improve their language skills while having fun. Highlights include Zorbing, Combat Archery and Pedal Karts. In the evening, all children join our special events including Secret Cinema, Staff Safari and Silly Olympics.
In addition to the impressive on-site facilities and activities above, we’re excited to confirm this year’s students will enjoy unmissable experiences such as a 100-ft inflatable obstacle course & mega slide. As well as an out-of-this-world experience when we welcome Winchester science centre and their mobile planetarium. This immersive 360-degree space experience will take students on a guided tour of our solar system that will leave your child feeling inspired and amazed. An experience not to be missed!
At the weekend our students will go on two full-day excursions to local attractions. This year students have exciting excursions planned including:
Legoland
The ultimate destination for young thrill-seekers. Imagine your child’s excitement as they explore a world made entirely out of colourful LEGO bricks, from towering roller coasters to swashbuckling pirate ships.
New Forest Wildlife Park
With over 200 animals to see, students will have the chance to get up close and personal with a variety of species. They can experience the thrill of walking through the park’s woodlands, spotting playful otters and red squirrels along the way.
As well as a visit to Marwell Zoo!
Students are always accompanied by our staff throughout the day, and will facilitate guided tours, access to attractions, and the opportunity for children to buy souvenirs to bring home.
In an SBC classroom, we go above and beyond the curriculum by adopting an experiential learning approach through project work and play. Our students are challenged to use and showcase new skills in a supportive and nurturing environment. With smaller classes and a more relaxed teaching atmosphere than more traditional schools, we provide an environment where busy students can enjoy an inspiring change of scenery and experience creative teaching and learning methods.
By creating real possibilities for skill development like critical thinking, leadership, communication and teamwork, we bring theory into practice and help students to engage in ways that might not always be possible in classes back home. At SBC, each student is actively encouraged to take the initiative, think critically and to work alongside others to solve problems. These strong skillsets undoubtedly support our students for years to come. This is all managed under the guidance of our dynamic and qualified teachers.
Our acclaimed Time to Shine projects are a highlight of the students’ academic programme. Here, classes work in groups to create a unique project over the course of the week before sharing their findings to the entire summer school at our special Time to Shine event.
During this unique project, skills like leadership, self-confidence, public speaking and team work are constructively developed. Our academic curriculum is built around student autonomy, which allows students to communicate their own ideas, solutions to problems and to share their view of the world.
We are certain that you will want to tell your friends, family, and teachers back home about your academic achievements at Twyford, so all students receive a certificate of course completion alongside a report. This is received at a celebration ceremony held in the final days of summer school, showing all you accomplished in class, as well as some helpful suggestions to guide you in the right direction for future success.
SBC has helped me improve my English whilst having fun. That’s why I’m coming back for the third time in a row!
Our students’ safety and wellbeing is our number one priority. With comprehensive Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies and procedures in place which all our employees, volunteers, and contractors are expected to follow. Our committed and trained staff are available to support students around-the-clock to ensure that they feel safe during their time with us. We provide the highest standards of care in giving our students the best support possible.
Free time and supervision
Due to the age of all students at SBC Twyford, there is no ‘free-time’ where students are able to independently explore unsupervised.
Twyford School’s boarding house, Orchard Close, has been recently fully refurbished and modernised, offering students excellent boarding facilities for their stay. Dorms range from 3-bed to 8-bed rooms, all with new ensuite bathrooms, as well as additional bathrooms being available on every floor. Male and female dorm rooms are in separate, adjacent buildings, with staff available onsite 24 hours for support. Orchard Close has large, beautiful gardens for the students to enjoy and play in, as well as common room areas for relaxation and games. Cleaning will take place daily across all bedrooms and bathroom facilities and an onsite laundry service is provided once per week too.

At Twyford Summer School we have classes to suit all levels of English from beginners to B2 level and higher.
Before the summer, an online test is sent for students to complete. We will use the results to confirm if the course is right for them. In the event that a student does not meet the required level on the test, we will conduct an academic consultation to assess the next best step.
Throughout the summer at Twyford, we have a very high staff-to-student ratio. We have two Social Welfare Managers who oversees the students’ welfare and safety, as well as any pastoral concerns. Additionally, we have Pastoral Activity Leaders who are in charge of supporting our students throughout their summer school day and who can help if any of the students ever felt upset or in need of extra support. Along with these staff members, all employees receive child safeguarding training prior to the summer. Each site has a number of designated first aiders.
