The past two days at Canford School have been full of excitement, with students experiencing everything from creative expression to sunny adventures by the sea. The atmosphere on campus has been vibrant and full of anticipation, especially as students geared up for one of the biggest events of the week — the talent show. Although a few students felt understandably nervous, the overall energy was high, with friends cheering each other on and staff providing plenty of encouragement. The weather has been typical of a British summer, mostly sunny with some light rain and clouds, but this hasn’t dampened any spirits — outdoor activities have continued with enthusiasm.
On Thursday, the spotlight was on wellbeing and social activities. With no academic sessions that day, students had the opportunity to unwind and engage in fun and creative sessions throughout the morning and afternoon. Some decorated tote bags while others took part in games of rounders, football and dodgeball. These low-pressure, high-energy activities gave students a chance to connect with new friends and prepare for the evening’s main event — the talent show.
The evening brought everyone together in one of the most memorable moments of the week. Any student who wanted to perform was welcomed on stage, and the range of talents on display was impressive — from singing and dancing to comedy and magic. There was a genuine feeling of support in the room, as students applauded one another and celebrated each performance. To wrap up the evening, the staff surprised everyone with a group performance of their own, adding to the fun and giving students one more reason to smile before heading off to bed.
The next day was dedicated entirely to excursions, offering students a chance to enjoy the beautiful surroundings beyond campus. Energy levels were high from the start as half the group set off for Sandbanks Beach while the other half headed to Bournemouth. Both trips offered something unique and fun for the students, with beach games, time in the water, and a bit of shopping.
Those who visited Sandbanks were treated to water sports, including kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. A particular highlight was the giant paddleboard, which held up to 15 students at once — plenty of laughter and splashing ensued. Meanwhile, the Bournemouth group explored the town with stops at Build-A-Bear, sweet shops, Tesco, and a variety of clothing stores. Both groups had picnic lunches packed for them, which they enjoyed together by the sea.
Returning to campus later in the day, the community atmosphere continued into the evening with a relaxed barbecue on the lawn. It was the perfect way to wind down — sharing food, enjoying the summer air, and reflecting on the day’s adventures.
These two days have really highlighted the variety of experiences on offer at Canford. Whether showcasing talents on stage, playing a casual game of dodgeball, paddling across the coast, or shopping with friends, the students are clearly making the most of their time here. Most importantly, they’re doing it together, supporting each other and building friendships that will last far beyond the summer.
As the programme continues, the energy on campus remains high and the sense of community is stronger than ever. The balance of creative expression, outdoor exploration and social bonding over these two days has given everyone something to smile about — and there’s still more to come.
