SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
Oceans, Creatures and Cosy Moments at Camp Headington
We’ve had a lively and imaginative couple of days at Camp Headington, filled with hands-on learning and joyful moments. The theme was all things ocean, and our campers took to it with huge enthusiasm.
Our day began with a creative lesson where the children made their own mini seas using plastic cups, sand, shells, and blue-tinted water. It was wonderful to see each camper’s vision come to life, as they built tiny underwater scenes and chatted excitedly about their creations. One child explained how theirs was “a home for jellyfish,” while another proudly added “a secret treasure cave” to theirs.
Creativity continued to flow in the next activity—a clay modelling session focused on sea creatures. Campers sculpted starfish, dolphins, and turtles with great focus and pride. The classroom soon filled with an ocean of imaginative creatures, followed by a painting session that saw the walls come alive with bright blues and coral tones. The sense of achievement as students showed off their work to each other was a lovely moment.
In the afternoon, everyone had the chance to run off some energy with classic games like Tag Rugby and British Bulldog. The laughter on the field spoke for itself, as the campers cheered each other on and built confidence through play. Indoors, they enjoyed some down time with card and board games, mixing problem-solving with lots of giggles.
The day wrapped up with “house time,” a chance to relax, play on their phones, and call home—a quiet end to a full and joyful day.
The following day brought a change in weather, but it didn’t slow anyone down. While the rain came down outside, the energy indoors stayed bright. Campers joined in with a lively animal yoga session, stretching and balancing their way through different animal poses. The sound of giggles as students acted out their favourite animals—“I’m a frog!” shouted one enthusiastically—was a perfect reminder of the playful spirit at camp.
Later, dance sessions took that energy up a notch, as campers moved to fun routines inspired by wildlife. They also got creative with wreath-making, using leaves, flowers, and natural materials to create beautiful animal-themed decorations.
That day’s academic focus saw them making “nature windows,” exploring how animals and plants live in different environments. These hands-on activities sparked thoughtful questions and excitement as students pieced together their own versions of mini ecosystems.
In the evening, they took on the marble rollercoaster challenge—a team activity where they built elaborate tracks from recycled materials and tested them out. It was a fantastic mix of creativity, collaboration, and laughter, with lots of cheering as the marbles raced through the designs.
And when the rain persisted into the evening, our team turned it into an opportunity for comfort and community. Campers gathered for a cosy movie night in the hall, snacks in hand, enjoying the calm together after a busy couple of days.
As always, Camp Headington continues to be a space where imagination, friendships and fun come first—whatever the weather might bring.
