SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
New Faces, New Friendships: A Warm Welcome at Eton
As the second cohort of students arrived at the stunning Eton College campus, the atmosphere has been full of anticipation, warmth and growing camaraderie. Over these first few days, friendships have started to form, routines are taking shape, and students are embracing the rhythm of summer school life. The weather has been on our side—sunny and energising—which has helped everyone enjoy outdoor activities and settle in comfortably.
The first day was all about orientation and making connections. With a fresh group arriving, students were finding their feet, meeting their peers, and beginning to explore their surroundings. Both Eton and Windsor were part of the orientation experience, offering the new arrivals a glimpse of their local setting, rich in history and charm. While the day was busy, it had a relaxed feel, giving everyone the time and space to ease into the programme.
Academically, it’s been a lively start. On arrival day, students were presented with a rather unconventional challenge in the classroom: designing a sensible pressure trap to detect zombies entering a room. It was creative, slightly chaotic, and completely engaging. This fun but thoughtful task encouraged students to think critically, collaborate quickly, and present their ideas with confidence—a playful introduction to problem solving and team communication.
The following day, attention turned to preparing for the ‘Time to Shine’ presentations, with one group diving into a debate format around a United Nations resolution. The classroom buzzed with discussion and preparation, as students took on roles, refined arguments, and practised speaking in front of their peers. Even in these early stages, it’s clear that many students are growing more confident in expressing their thoughts and working as a team.
Beyond the classroom, sport and creative activities have been key in helping everyone unwind and connect. On their first afternoon, students tackled a series of challenges on the football pitch—not only a chance to burn off energy, but also a great way to break the ice. These games quickly became moments of laughter and teamwork, where language barriers faded and students supported each other instinctively.
Wednesday brought more variety to the social side of the week. Some students opted for football again, others went swimming to cool off in the warm weather, while a few enjoyed a more relaxed pace with painting sessions. These options allowed everyone to find an activity that suited their mood and helped create a balanced, welcoming environment.
As students settle in, there’s a gentle sense of excitement growing. The pace is calm but purposeful, giving everyone the chance to build confidence and enjoy themselves. There’s been a focus on ensuring students feel at ease, and it’s clear this approach is working, with many already forming early bonds and showing interest in the days ahead.
This early part of the week has laid the foundations for a fantastic summer school experience. From debating global issues to building zombie-proof traps and spending afternoons on the pitch or by the pool, students are starting to feel at home. The atmosphere is open, friendly, and filled with the kind of quiet momentum that promises more memorable moments to come.
