SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
From Stock Markets to Mock Surgeries, Students Shine
The atmosphere across the Oxford College continues to be positive, focused and energetic.
In the classroom, students have been engaging fully with their subjects. A standout moment came in Business, where a guest lecturer introduced the group to the Stock Exchange. The students were split into teams and tasked with ‘investing’ in live stocks and shares, reacting to fluctuations and working together to make smart decisions. It brought the world of finance to life and encouraged plenty of lively discussion and teamwork. Elsewhere, other classes continued their lessons, building knowledge and applying ideas in creative and practical ways.
Away from campus, students have taken part in some truly memorable industry experiences. Law students visited a traditional courtroom in Oxford, where they took on the roles of barristers, judges and witnesses in a mock trial. The setting added a strong sense of occasion, and students handled their roles with confidence and maturity. For many, it was a first insight into legal proceedings and public speaking in a professional environment.
Medical students, meanwhile, had a hands-on visit to a university hospital where they explored the practical side of healthcare. Activities included checking blood pressure, preparing for surgery and treating simulated injuries in a controlled environment. The pretend surgeries were particularly popular, offering a realistic and engaging way to apply what they’ve been learning in class. These sessions offered a valuable glimpse into medical practice and were met with great enthusiasm.
Evenings on campus have continued to offer a relaxed and enjoyable way to wind down after the day’s activities. A quiz night brought out everyone’s competitive side, with mixed teams of students challenging each other on everything from history to pop culture. The atmosphere was lively, and the event was a fun way to bring students together from different classes. Later in the week, the Talent Showcase took centre stage, with performances from singers, musicians and dancers. There was a lot of cheering and support from the audience, and it was a lovely reminder of the kindness and encouragement that’s been growing among the group.
Through every part of the programme — from engaging lessons and professional insights to social evenings and shared experiences — students continue to make the most of their time at Oxford College. Confidence is growing, friendships are forming, and the sense of community is clear to see.
