SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
From Presentations to Playlists: A Joyful Close at Cambridge College
The final stretch of the programme at Cambridge College has been filled with a sense of celebration and accomplishment. Even with a few students catching a seasonal cold, the energy on campus has remained upbeat and resilient. The weather has been mild with the occasional light rain, but this hasn’t dampened any spirits—if anything, it added a touch of British charm to the final days. Friendships are strong, and the students have been buzzing with anticipation for their Time to Shine presentations and the upcoming graduation event.
The academic focus this week centred around the students’ Time to Shine sessions—a highlight that gave everyone the opportunity to share and showcase their learning and ideas from the past few weeks. The first lessons of the day were spent preparing for the presentations, with some classes still deciding who would represent them. This gave everyone a chance to test their presentation skills and support each other with last-minute feedback and encouragement.
Each group brought something unique and thoughtful to the stage. The Social Sciences 2 class imagined “Playa Blanca,” an all-inclusive holiday destination powered by influencer marketing, complete with SPF creams and sports branding. Their motto—“No stress, just sun and success”—summed up the vibe perfectly. Meanwhile, Social Sciences 1 tackled a serious issue with maturity and insight, presenting on the gender pay gap in professional sport, making their point with the powerful line: “Equal pay starts with equal investment.”
The Medicine group’s presentation stood out for its combination of humour and education. They explored epilepsy through a video that was both engaging and informative. Their message, “Be kind and smart,” came through clearly as they walked the audience through the science of seizures with a mix of creative acting and personal stories, including a thoughtful interview with their classmate Thom.
The SciTech students took a different route with their fictional town of “Solutionville,” proposing creative energy solutions involving windmills, biomass and even a salmon god that the town must protect. Their presentation was inventive and humorous, yet full of practical insights into sustainable energy.
The Business classes rounded out the session with energy and flair. Business 2 introduced “Triptailor,” a travel business with a polished and lively video that celebrated both the concept and their time at SBC—featuring canteen tours, lesson snippets, and interviews with fellow students. Business 1 created “Joydrop,” an events company. Their well-structured explanation of their services was followed by a comical and professional video that brought plenty of laughter and applause.
Outside the classroom, the energy remained high. In the afternoon, the traditional t-shirt signing brought everyone together. In true celebratory style, mentors tossed branded “Cambridge College” shirts into a crowd of excited students, who then spent time enthusiastically signing each other’s shirts with brightly coloured markers. It was fast-paced, joyful and filled with laughter—the kind of moment that will be kept and remembered long after the shirts fade.
The final evening will be one to remember. Graduation is taking place at the Tivoli, located in a lovely part of Cambridge near Jesus Green and beside the river. The setting is ideal for marking the end of the course. Students will have exclusive access to mini golf and shuffleboard, while a generous buffet offers something for everyone—pizza, salads, burgers, and more, all accompanied by soft drinks. Music played throughout the night, with student-made playlists setting the tone. As well as a photobooth that will no doubt be the social hub of the evening, with students capturing memories in silly poses between rounds of dancing.
Though the course is drawing to a close, the sense of community here has never felt stronger. These final few days have captured so much of what makes the Cambridge College experience meaningful—creativity, confidence, and connection. Whether through thoughtful presentations, friendly t-shirt signings or one last dance at graduation, the students have made lasting memories and left their mark.
As they prepare to head home, we hope these stories offer a glimpse into just how much the students have grown—not only in knowledge but in friendship and spirit too.
