SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
Curiosity, Creativity and Curtain Calls at Earlscliffe
Midweek brought a change of pace and scenery as we travelled into the heart of London for a day rich in culture and discovery. Our visit to the British Museum was a clear highlight, with students utterly absorbed by artefacts like the Lewis Chessmen and the mummified Egyptians. Some groups could barely be pulled away, so keen were they to explore more of the museum’s treasures. The afternoon continued with a walking tour through central London, taking in some of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. A well-earned break on Oxford Street gave students the chance to browse, shop, and pick up souvenirs – a chance to relax and soak in the London atmosphere.
Back on campus on Thursday, students brought focus and thoughtfulness to their UNESCO debates, showcasing sharp reasoning and real engagement with global topics. Afterwards, they headed into a range of physical and creative outlets. Whether playing padel or football, or creating comic strips in arts and crafts, everyone found a way to wind down and enjoy the afternoon in their own style. The energy continued into the evening with the much-anticipated talent show. As always, it was a joyful and heartwarming occasion, with students stepping onto the stage to sing, dance, act, and entertain. The support from the audience was palpable – a true celebration of community and confidence.
Friday brought a slightly more emotional tone as we said goodbye to our art students. They leave us having contributed richly to the campus atmosphere, and we’re grateful for the creativity and character they brought to the group. That evening, the disco gave everyone a final moment together – a chance to dance, laugh and share farewells with new friends. But with promises of staying in touch, it was clear that many of these goodbyes were simply the start of long-lasting friendships.
The weekend saw a fresh wave of excitement as we welcomed 20 new students from eight different countries, adding even more cultural variety to our already diverse group. Their arrival was met with genuine warmth and curiosity, and they’ve been quick to settle into life at Earlscliffe. Tomorrow promises another adventure as we head to Canterbury for a boat trip through the city that inspired Chaucer. With its winding waterways and historic streets, it’s sure to be a memorable outing.
We now find ourselves entering the final fortnight of the summer, and there’s a real sense of momentum and anticipation building. There’s so much still to experience, and students are clearly eager to make the most of every opportunity. The campus remains full of energy, curiosity, and genuine connection – a place where learning, laughter, and friendship are shared in equal measure.
