SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
Circuits, Sketches and Karaoke
The week continues at Canford School, and the latest update, covering 22 July, offered a change of rhythm for everyone on campus. With light rain drifting through the grounds, the atmosphere took on a gentler tone, which was appreciated by many of the students who are still settling in and adjusting to new time zones. While the weather shifted plans slightly, the campus felt calm and cosy, with both staff and students leaning into the relaxed pace of the day.
In the classrooms, lessons carried on with a focus on creativity and problem-solving. Business students took on the challenge of constructing spaghetti towers, bringing a touch of engineering into their session and inviting lots of laughter as structures wobbled and toppled. In English, students worked on greetings, an important building block for both conversation skills and confidence. Art groups spent time developing their sketching techniques, giving them space to focus quietly and refine their work, while science lessons got hands-on with circuits. It was a day where simple projects sparked interest and imagination, and the more laid-back pace allowed students to fully engage with their tasks.
Though there were no excursions on the schedule, the time on site was well spent. The change in weather led to a shift in plans for the evening, but staff ensured the day still felt fun and full. Afternoon activities included a wide range of options: nature walks for those wanting to explore the green surroundings, tennis for students eager to stay active, and crafts and bracelet-making sessions that gave space for creativity and conversation. Board games offered a chance for quieter interaction, while a football match gave energy to those keen to run around despite the drizzle.
With evening rain on the forecast, the originally planned game of capture the flag was swapped out for an indoor favourite. Students took part in a “what happens next” video challenge – watching clips that paused just before the ending and trying to guess how they concluded from multiple choice options. It brought out lots of laughter and a bit of friendly competition as students tried to predict the outcomes. Following the game, a spontaneous karaoke session kicked off, led by staff but quickly taken over by enthusiastic students. They chose their own songs, sang in groups or solo, and created a lively and supportive atmosphere that carried well into the evening.
Though the day was quieter, it gave everyone a chance to regroup, connect and enjoy a bit of light-hearted fun indoors. It’s clear that even in the rain, Canford finds ways to stay warm, active and full of life.
