SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
Bingo, Brushes and a Bit of Sunshine
As July draws to a close, the energy on campus at Headington remains as upbeat as ever. Though the weather tried its best to keep everyone indoors, occasional dry spells gave students the chance to stretch their legs and enjoy the fresh air, which was met with plenty of enthusiasm. Whether inside the art room or out on the sports fields, students showed a great sense of community, adaptability and fun.
While lessons continued as normal earlier in the day, it was the variety of afternoon and evening activities that really brought the groups together. In a change of pace for the sports groups, students from football and volleyball swapped their trainers for bingo cards as they gathered in the lecture theatre. With Matteo leading the game with real flair, the group dove into an unexpectedly intense round of bingo. One game lasted over an hour, with cheers, gasps and nervous anticipation filling the room. In the end, three winners claimed their prizes—chocolate, of course—and the laughter that followed was proof of how much everyone enjoyed this shared moment.
Elsewhere on campus, the art room became a calm and colourful hub as students painted their own interpretations of life at Headington. These quieter moments allowed them to reflect, express and unwind, offering a creative outlet away from the busier group games. The relaxed atmosphere gave students a space to enjoy their own process, whether experimenting with new styles or working on more personal pieces. There was a steady flow of music and conversation in the background, and plenty of students were proud to share their finished works with their friends and staff.
Later in the day, once the rain cleared enough to permit it, students rushed outside to enjoy some long-awaited time on the sports pitches. Even though the break in the weather was brief, it made a world of difference. The joy of running around on the grass, after a day mostly spent indoors, was evident in every smiling face. These small windows of activity helped keep the energy levels up and made the most of the summer school atmosphere.
As evening arrived, attention turned to the house competition—always a favourite on campus. Students gathered in their houses, ready to face off in a series of challenges designed to test teamwork, problem-solving and creativity. The room was buzzing with excitement as each house cheered on their team. Staff were quick to join in, lending their support and enjoying the light-hearted rivalry. By the end of the night, the Hillstow Hummingbirds had taken the lead, earning them plenty of bragging rights going into the next round. The enthusiasm and determination shown by all the houses highlighted just how close-knit the campus community has become.
Across the day’s activities, one common theme stood out: the ability of the students to adapt, support one another, and make the most of every opportunity. Whether engaged in a heated game of bingo, quietly painting, or diving into house competitions, they approached each activity with good humour and team spirit. These are the moments that make summer school so special—not just the lessons or the outings, but the laughter, the shared victories, and the simple joy of spending time with new friends.
As we move into August, the sense of belonging and momentum across campus only continues to grow. The resilience and positivity shown by the students, regardless of the weather, speaks volumes about the environment that has been built here over the past few weeks. We look forward to more creativity, collaboration and celebration in the days ahead.
