SUMMER BOARDING COURSES
Bingo, Blossoms and Baby Photos
The latest day at Canford School started gently under grey skies, but what began as a quiet, rainy morning soon gave way to a lively, joy-filled afternoon and evening that captured the best of what SBC summer life has to offer. The change in weather seemed to lift spirits as the day progressed, and by evening, there was a buzz of energy running through the campus that was impossible to miss.
Academically, the students remained engaged across a wide range of subjects. In STEM, the focus was on nature and science, as students explored the world of flowers and seeds through practical activities. English classes took a more conversational turn, with students discussing their favourite films—a topic that sparked lots of animated contributions and personal recommendations. Meanwhile, in Business, students practised working collaboratively as they tackled group delegation tasks, developing key communication and organisational skills. Over in Art, students had the chance to express themselves through painting, creating their own works while reflecting on colour, form and technique in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
Although no excursions or guest speakers were scheduled for the day, students had plenty to look forward to on campus. In the afternoon, the focus turned towards wellbeing and fun, with a wide range of creative and physical activities available. From building and launching homemade rockets to crafting slime and playing a fast-paced game of frisbee, the students threw themselves into each session with enthusiasm. A calming yoga class also provided a quieter space for those looking to unwind and recharge.
The evening was originally set for a game of Capture the Flag, but a return of the rain prompted a last-minute switch to an indoor event—and it turned out to be one of the most memorable evenings yet. A campus-wide bingo night took over, with plenty of prizes and laughter. One of the standout moments was the “Guess the Baby Photo” game, where students tried to identify various staff members from their childhood pictures. It was both hilarious and heartwarming, offering a lovely opportunity for students to see a different side of the team looking after them.
What began as a quiet evening quickly transformed into an impromptu karaoke session. By the end of the night, the room was full of voices singing together, students cheering each other on, and a brilliant sense of community and fun that lasted well after the last song. It was a clear sign of how well the group has bonded—across age groups, nationalities, and interests, everyone joined in with the same spirit of celebration.
Even though the weather didn’t cooperate at every turn, it certainly didn’t hold anyone back. The day showed how quickly students adapt, support each other, and make the most of every opportunity. With the mix of thoughtful learning, creative play, and a joyful social scene, Canford continues to offer a balanced and exciting summer experience. The laughter heard across the evening was just one more reminder of how much these moments mean—not only for fun, but for friendship, confidence, and memories that will last well beyond the summer.
