A Warm Welcome to Oxford College

The first arrivals have landed, the first friendships are forming, and the halls of Oxford College are once again alive with the sounds of laughter and anticipation. As we begin a brand-new summer, the spirit on campus is already full of promise.

Students began arriving throughout Sunday, greeted with plenty of smiles from our welcoming team, who were on hand from the moment transfers arrived to help everyone settle in smoothly. Even after long journeys, there was an unmistakable buzz of excitement as students took their first steps into their home for the next two weeks. It didn’t take long before students were exchanging names, exploring their surroundings, and making their first connections. The sun even made a generous appearance, bathing the college in a warm golden light that helped set the tone for a very cheerful start.

The evening was all about bringing everyone together. Our first official event introduced students to the social programme, with games designed to get people chatting and laughing straight away. It was heartening to see even the shyest faces light up as the evening went on – a lovely preview of the friendships that will soon feel second nature.

As we move into our first full day on campus, the energy is high and the excitement is growing. This morning marks the beginning of our academic programme, with students heading to their first lessons. It’s always wonderful to watch students settle into their classes, discover new interests, and see the beginnings of collaborative learning take shape.

After lunch, we’ll hold our Welcome Orientation – an opportunity to introduce students properly to the wider campus community, run through the essentials for a smooth and safe summer, and share a little more about what to expect during their time here. This is also a chance for students to ask any questions they may have and to meet more of the team who will be guiding them along the way.

Later this evening, our Photography Challenge awaits. This activity always proves popular and gives students a chance to explore Oxford in a slightly different way – through a creative lens. It’s a fun and relaxed evening that encourages teamwork and a bit of friendly competition, while also letting students take in their new surroundings and start seeing this beautiful city as their own.

There’s a brilliant sense of energy already building here at Oxford College. The campus feels vibrant and alive, and although it’s only the very beginning, we can already see students starting to feel at home. The diversity of backgrounds, languages, and stories in the room reminds us how special this environment is – where students from around the world come together to learn, grow, and have fun.

With the first day now underway, the tone has been firmly set for a summer full of discovery, connection, and unforgettable memories.
