A Warm Welcome in Cambridge

Cambridge is once again filled with the sounds of students arriving, settling in, and preparing to begin their summer journeys. With suitcases in hand and excitement in the air, our first arrivals have brought a wonderful energy to campus – and the atmosphere is already warm and welcoming.

Sunday was all about arrivals, and our team was ready from the start to greet students as they made their way to their new home. From travel support to room check-ins, everything ran smoothly and with plenty of smiles. It’s always lovely to watch those first nervous introductions quickly turn into laughter as students begin chatting, unpacking, and taking their first look around the beautiful Cambridge setting they’ll be calling home.

This morning, the official programme begins. Following breakfast and our morning assembly, the first full day kicks off with a Welcome Orientation. This session is all about helping students feel confident and comfortable as they learn about how the course will run, who’s here to support them, and how to get the most out of their time. It’s also a chance to set the tone for the weeks ahead – one of curiosity, openness, and shared experience.

The focus then shifts to Academic Orientation, giving students an introduction to their upcoming lessons. This session helps establish a clear structure and introduces them to the expectations and opportunities they’ll have in the classroom. It’s always rewarding to see students begin asking questions, sharing ideas, and already showing enthusiasm for what lies ahead.

After lunch, attention turns to the Time to Shine project – a key part of the academic journey that encourages students to work collaboratively, think creatively, and communicate confidently. Even on day one, the groundwork begins as students start forming ideas and understanding how they’ll develop and present their projects in the coming days.

Later in the afternoon, students take part in a short Free Time Assembly before heading into a Cambridge Orientation session. This gives them a chance to become familiar with the local area and to understand a bit more about the traditions and surroundings of this historic city. It’s a brilliant opportunity to feel more grounded and confident as they begin to explore Cambridge more fully over the coming week.

Evening assembly brings everyone together once more to reflect on the day, settle into routines, and wind down in a way that helps students feel supported and connected as they get ready for their first full night on campus.

There’s already a noticeable buzz throughout the college. The mix of excitement, kindness, and curiosity that fills the air on these first days is always something special. It’s a pleasure to welcome such a diverse group of students from around the world, and to see them begin this journey in such high spirits.

The first day is only just beginning, but it’s already clear that we’re set for a summer of meaningful learning, strong friendships, and plenty of memorable moments here in Cambridge.
