The past few days at Canford have been full of energy, reflection, and celebration as we approached the final weekend of this part of the programme. Although the weather has been mostly rainy and cloudy, it hasn’t dampened spirits in the slightest. In fact, the cooler skies brought a lovely sense of calm across campus, offering the perfect backdrop for students to prepare for the big moments ahead. There’s a definite shift in mood—many students are beginning to feel the weight of saying goodbye, but there’s also an undeniable excitement in the air, particularly around the final social events and academic showcases.
The central focus of the week has been the students’ Time to Shine presentations. After days of hard work, collaboration, and creative thinking in class, students finally had the chance to present their projects and ideas. These presentations are always a highlight of the course, giving each student the opportunity to step forward and share what they’ve accomplished. Whether it was a well-reasoned debate, a dynamic group project, or a personal reflection, each presentation reflected the effort and growth students have experienced. Understandably, there were nerves beforehand, but also plenty of pride and satisfaction once the sessions wrapped up.
With no excursions on the timetable, attention turned to the activities on site, especially as the rainy morning called for a change in plans. Instead of outdoor adventures, students enjoyed a relaxed and sociable morning with films, arts and crafts, and indoor football. These smaller group sessions offered a comforting way to start the day and allowed students to unwind a bit ahead of the evening festivities. In the afternoon, the weather cleared just enough to allow a lively treasure hunt around campus—adding a touch of adventure and teamwork to the day.
As always, wellbeing remains at the heart of the programme, and today’s activities supported that beautifully. The variety of indoor and outdoor options meant students could choose what suited them best, whether that was getting creative, getting active, or simply spending time with friends. These quieter moments have been especially valuable as the week draws to a close, giving students a chance to reflect, connect, and recharge.
The standout event, without question, was the Galaxy Disco in the evening. There was a buzz of anticipation leading up to it, with students excited to get dressed up and celebrate the end of a fantastic week. The disco brought everyone together one last time, and the energy in the room was infectious. Laughter, dancing, and plenty of photos captured the joy of the moment, and it was lovely to see students letting loose and enjoying themselves after a week of focused effort in class.
There’s been a sense of real community across campus these past few days. Even though students are already beginning to feel the bittersweet pull of leaving, there’s also a genuine pride in what they’ve achieved and the friendships they’ve formed. It’s clear from their faces and conversations that the experience has meant a great deal to them.
As we wrap up this week at Canford, it’s heartening to see how much students have grown—not only in their academic work, but also in their confidence, independence, and ability to connect with others from around the world. It’s been a week of learning, laughter, and lasting memories, and the entire team couldn’t be prouder.
